“I want to thank the Miss South Carolina Organization for the many opportunities that I have had to share my platform and raise awareness about brain tumors. I look forward to having more of an impact in our community as I continue participating with this wonderful organization.” - Savannah Rae Houston
The Miss South Carolina Organization created a
mentoring program for young girls ages 5-16 who
shadow a Teen or Miss South Carolina contestant
during the year of her reign which encompasses
adopting and promoting a platform and dedicating
one’s time to community service organizations. 2007
marked Savannah’s second year as a ‘Palmetto Princess’
and the promotion of her own platform “Brain Tumor
Awareness”.
Savannah has assisted in hosting the “Brain Tumor
Awareness” tent at area cancer events-passing out
grey ribbons to raise brain tumor awareness, sharing
pamphlets that inform about brain tumors, where to
seek support and how to help those that are trying to
raise awareness. She shares her platform with those
that she meets and is learning how to communicate
the need to raise awareness since the majority of those
affected face low survivability today. Through raising
awareness, prevention and detection will become more
available just as they have for other cancers who now
celebrate a 90% survival rate.
CONGRATULATIONS to Dorothy-ticketholder A685 of the raffle for the IPOD Touch!
